Hamilton Island, Whitsundays, Queensland

Hamilton Island is one of my favourite places to take a break. Its the largest inhabited island in the beautiful Whitsundays located just off the Queensland Coast. With daily tours to The Great Barrier Reef, 40 different activities, 10 restaurants, 6 pools, over 20 shops and boutiques, a chapel, daily direct flights from the mainland, 20km of bushwalking trails and a year-round temperature of 27.4C – Hamilton Island is a fantastic choice for your next family holiday.

There is a large range of accommodation available on the island you can choose from hotel rooms, apartments or holiday houses. The accommodation ranges from 3 star to 5 star so there is something to suit every budget. If self catering is what you are looking for then the holiday homes are a good choice for families, they even come with a golf buggy to get around. You can even arrange grocery delivery via coles online to come during your stay. There are few cars on the island, walking or golf buggy are the preferred means of transport. The island does have a complimentary shuttle bus that circles the island centre regularly and can get you anywhere you need to go.

There are fantastic restaurant choices on the island ranging from hot dogs and ice cream through to fine dining. You are spoilt for choice, head to the tavern for good pub food, the pizzeria, the steak house, beachfront dining or grab takeaway and chill on the beach its up to you!

They offer weary Mums and Dads a break with the Hamilton Island Clownfish Club. They match age with activity so the under-five’s’ get things like painting, face painting, water play, blocks, puzzles, drawing, art and craft, indoor and outdoor playtime, storytelling and puppets. The over fives’ are more into snorkelling, swimming, beach activities, slime and goop, perhaps a visit to Koala Gallery, fishing, cooking, craft and games more suitable to their age.

For kids who aren’t kids (13 – 17 year olds) Hamilton Island has plenty to keep them busy with pool and beach games, teens BBQ’s and sports competitions. They will intuitively know to give their parents a break by taking the afternoon off to spend some time with people their own age. For kids aged 6 weeks – 4 years Hamilton has qualified group leaders available for child minding at an additional fee.

Hamilton Island has more than 40 activities to entertain the entire family separately or together. With go-karts, mini-golf, Koala Gallery, shooting range, watersports and tours, the famous Wire Flyer and much more, a family holiday won’t not be long enough to fit it all in! Hamilton Island also has so many day tours on offer to the Great Barrier Reef, Whitehaven Beach, Daydream Island, sailing adventures, jet boats, jet skis, private yacht charter and so much more. However you don’t need to go anywhere if you just want to relax, Hamilton Island has a beautiful swimming pools and palm lined beaches.

I am so fortunate to have stayed on Hamilton Island many times with my family and its a favourite of ours! So many choices of activities, food and entertainment. Plus its so easy to get to, Hamilton Island has its own airport on the island, just 20min after you land you are checked in to your accommodation and ready to relax!
